Planting Trees and Kelp

Partnership with veritree:

Rootree is proud to share that we have partnered with veritree and are planting verified trees and kelp that allow us to sequester a greater amount of carbon than the emissions in our footprint. This partnership empowers us to support veritree’s mission of planting trees for conservation and collaborative restoration.

What is veritree?

veritree is a verified tree planting, data-driven and restorative platform that connects nature-based solutions with mission-driven companies ready to lead the restorative economy. With on-the-ground monitoring and blockchain verification, they provide transparency and trust through data and tools that revitalize ecosystems, strengthen communities, and build climate solutions.

How are the planting projects tracked?

veritree utilizes blockchain technology that provides sponsors with an integrated platform to support field-level:
  • Data collection
  • Site planning
  • Inventory management
  • Impact monitoring
We’re provided with transparency and trust through their technology, providing proof of the revitalization of ecosystems, communities and building climate solutions.

How do our customers benefit from marking their pouches?

Now that we’re partnered with veritree, our customers can put our mark on their pouches! Announcing that, “this pouch was made in a facility that supports planting verified trees and kelp”. This allows their conscious customers to know that their products are environmentally friendly and advocating for prominent causes.

How are we doing more?

In 2023, we completed our first corporate carbon footprint analysis. Through our partnership with veritree, we’re enabled to sequester 25% more than our entire carbon footprint.

What is our planting project?

We are planting trees and kelp in collaboration with veritree in British Columbia. As previous forest fires have destroyed thousands of trees in the region, we are working towards assisting in post-wildfire restoration, helping ecosystems recover. As well, kelp forests have decreased due to their sensitivity to their environment, affected by climate change, overfishing, etc. Planting the right species of kelp and trees can be beneficial towards restoration, supporting biodiversity, and wildlife.

We are contributing to the combat of climate change, enhancing biodiversity, and fortifying natural resilience!

What are we planting?

  • Interior Douglas:
    • Tree species are chosen for ecological suitability and ability to withstand shifts in climate.
    • Species: Douglas-fir, lodgepole pine, ponderosa pine, hybrid spruce, and western larch.
  • Kelp:
    • Kelp forests provide carbon sinks and habitat for species such as salmon and otters.
    • Species being planted: bull, sugar, and winged kelp.

What is the Restorative Coalition?

The addresses the Nature Funding Gap, which is the urgent need for funding to restore and conserve nature. This is where businesses like us can contribute to the joint forces alongside other businesses and organizations to accelerate the restoration efforts. As one of the founding members of the Coalition, we’re thrilled to be part of the community effort that leverages expertise and innovative strategies amplifying positive influence on every participating business.

Rootree is excited to be partnered with veritree to work towards aquatic and wildfire restoration, while sequestering 25% more than our carbon footprint! By being one of the founding members of the Restorative Coalition, we’re enabled to further work towards eco-responsibility and promote sustainable standards.
